Municipal Chief Executive Of Jaman South Evacuates Over 80-Years-Old Refuse Dump.
The Jaman South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Siata Watara, together with the Assembly’s Environmental Health Unit and the Assembly Member for the Papasu Electoral Area, has supervised the evacuation of a refuse dump that had reportedly existed for over 80 years at Papasu in the Jaman South Municipality.
Speaking to Angel News after the exercise, Hon. Siata Watara said the Assembly Member for Papasu and the Paramount Chief of Japekrom formally complained about the situation.
She said a subsequent inspection revealed the urgent need to clear the dump to create a healthier environment for residents in the area.
According to the MCE, the refuse dump was located close to the Japekrom Islamic School, prompting the school’s headteacher and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to also petition the Assembly for its removal.
The Assembly Member for Papasu Electoral Area, Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Osman Kumi, expressed gratitude to the Jaman South Municipal Assembly and the MCE for committing substantial resources to evacuate the dump.
He noted that the amount spent could have been used to construct a six-unit classroom block, stressing the significance of the intervention.
He pledged to remain vigilant and ensure that residents dispose of refuse in designated Zoomlion containers to prevent the recurrence of such huge refuse heaps.
A resident also commended the MCE and the NDC government for responding to their concerns.
She said the refuse dump had posed serious health risks to residents and expressed hope that its removal would bring them significant relief.
