Update!!!!! Ejisu Police Intercepts Lady Who Stole 5-Month -Old Baby Banahene At Asafo Matket — Baby Rescued.

There is great relief and joy in Kumasi as the 5-month-old baby boy who was stolen at Asafo Market has been found.

Police at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region have successfully intercepted and arrested the woman who allegedly stole baby Akwasi Banahene from the Cape Coast Bus Terminal area of the Asafo Market.

The suspect, believed to be between 37 and 40 years old, was apprehended today at Ejisu while attempting to escape, following swift intelligence and collaboration between the Asakwa and Ejisu Police.

The baby, Akwasi Banahene, who was stolen on sunday, September 20, 2026, around 5:00 a.m., has been rescued alive and in good health and has since been reunited with his distraught mother, Freda, and the family.

It will be recalled that the mother, who is a food vendor at Asafo Market, had left her sleeping baby in front of their store while preparing food around 5 a.m., when the unknown woman who was sitting close to the store vanished with the child.

The uncle of the baby, Mr. Osei Kuffour, who earlier spoke to the media, disclosed that they searched the entire market but could not find the woman, after which they lodged a complaint with the Asafo Police.

According to police sources, immediately after the complaint was lodged, a special alert was circulated to all police checkpoints across the region.

Acting on intelligence, the Ejisu Police mounted a search and intercepted a woman matching the description given, carrying a baby boy believed to be 5 months old.

Upon interrogation, the suspect could not give convincing answers about the baby, leading to her arrest. The baby has been identified by the family as Akwasi Banahene.

The suspect is currently in police custody at Ejisu, assisting with investigations and is expected to be transferred to Kumasi for further investigations and possible prosecution.

The family are currently on their way to Asokwa to take Akwasi Banahene back home.
