No More One-Week Observation In Manso Datano — Queen Mother Declares.

In a bold move to reduce the high cost of funerals and strengthen financial stability among families, the traditional leaders of Manso Datano in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region have cancelled the observation of one-week funeral celebrations in the town.

The Queen Mother of Manso Datano, Nana Nyame Pomaa, has declared that effective 6th October, 2026, till the end of the world, all one-week observation ceremonies governing funerals have been abolished in Manso Datano.

According to her, the decision was unanimously taken by the traditional council, elders, and opinion leaders of the town after extensive deliberations.

She explained that the move is aimed at following the footsteps of their ancestors who did not practice one-week observations, and also to reduce the unnecessary financial burden that funerals have become in recent times.

“We are going back to follow the footsteps of our ancestors. In their time, there was nothing like one-week observation. This one-week thing is making funerals very expensive.

Families are forced to borrow, do contributions and spend a lot before the actual funeral. We want to ease that pressure,” Nana Nyame Pomaa stated.

She noted that funerals have become too expensive for many families in Datano, with some even going into debt just to observe one-week, and it was time to put a stop to it to restore sanity and financial discipline.

The Queen Mother further revealed that all families and residents have agreed to strictly comply with the new directive, and warned that after 6th October, anyone caught going against the directive by organizing a one-week observation will be summoned by the traditional leaders for appropriate customary sanctions.

She therefore called on all residents of Manso Datano, both home and abroad, to take note and respect the new traditional law.

Residents who spoke to our reporter have largely welcomed the decision, describing it as timely and a great relief to families who are already struggling economically.
