Assembly Members Petition DCE Over Asanko Mining Company Attacks

Aggrieved assembly members in Amansie West District, Ashanti Region, have petitioned District Chief Executive Hon. Prince Manu Morris to forward their grievances to relevant authorities includes Ashanti regional minister, president Mahama and His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The petition concerns ongoing attacks by Asanko Mining Company, including a recent incident where Hon. Patrick Danquah, an assembly member, was shot dead by military personnel assigned to the company.

The presiding member for the assembly,Hon Antwi Amponsah, said the situation highlights tensions between the mining company and local communities, emphasizing the need for resolution.

The assembly members expressed concerns over continued harassment and attacks, citing another incident where Hon. Patrick Boamah was arrested and detained without charges.

They called on authorities to protect them and seek justice since their lives under threats.

Hon. Prince Manu Morris assured that he would forward the petition to the Ashanti Regional Minister, President John Dramani Mahama, and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of the Ashanti Kingdom, to address their grievances and ensure justice is served.
