Atwima Mponnua Residents Plead For Completion Of Agenda 111 Hospital, DCE Assures Action

Residents of the Atwima Mponnua district in the Ashanti Region are voicing serious concerns about the stalled “Agenda 111” hospital project, calling for its urgent completion and operationalization.
They say the project, initiated during the Nana Addo-Bawumia administration, was halfway abandoned and has since been abandoned till now, leaving the area without adequate healthcare facilities.
The residents are appealing to the current government to ensure the immediate continuation of the project, citing numerous health challenges resulting from the lack of proper healthcare access.
Several individuals shared stories of how the absence of a well-equipped local hospital has had tragic consequences.
One young man bitterly expressed his frustration: “My own brother was recently involved in an accident, and his condition became critical because of the difficulty we had finding a car to take him to Kumasi.
We urgently need the Agenda 111 hospital. If it were ready, we wouldn’t be suffering like this.”
Another woman told the media, “The absence of the Agenda 111 project is a major source of worry.
Sometimes, people are rushed to Kumasi only to be told there are no beds available.
Many people lose their lives due to these challenges. We urgently need Agenda 111 to be ready to solve the problems we are facing.”
“The small health facility we have in Nyinahin is always full, overburdened with pressure from nearby villages and other communities,” added a male resident.
“We’re often left with no option but to rush our relatives and friends to Kumasi for medical attention.
But Kumasi always complains of no beds. If the Agenda 111 hospital were ready, we wouldn’t be suffering.
We need it urgently, and we are pleading with the government, the DCE, and all the authorities to immediately intervene and help alleviate this unfortunate situation.”
Responding to the residents’ concerns, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Ishaq Ibrahim stated that completing the Agenda 111 project is a top priority for the government.
He assured residents that the completion of the project would benefit the community and its neighbouring towns, addressing their healthcare needs.
However, the DCE also disclosed that the contractor has not yet handed over the project to the assembly, and the contractor’s current whereabouts are unknown.
He appealed to the Health Minister to intervene so the contractor could return to the site and complete the project.
“His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is really determined to ensure the completion of all Agenda 111 projects and other projects left unfinished by the previous administration.
We are going to do that. It’s Ghana we are building, and development is what we need as a country,” the DCE said.
“The challenge we face is that the contractor left the site even before we took over power.
We only need him back on-site, and that’s a step I have taken towards the Health Minister.”
End.
