Ejisu Old Krapa Residents Cry For Help Over Mounting Sanitation Crisis And Lack Of Toilets

Residents of Ejisu Old Krapa in the Ejisu Constituency of the Ashanti Region are raising urgent concerns over a worsening sanitation crisis that has plagued their community for years.

They are calling on government authorities, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Jerryne Asante, and the Assemblyman for Ejisu Krapa, Hon. Bawaah, to intervene immediately and clear the massive heaps of garbage that have taken over parts of the area.

According to the residents, the unbearable stench, mosquito infestations, and health risks from the accumulated waste have made living conditions deplorable.

Because of the rubbish, we cannot stay here.

We don’t even have toilet facilities, so we are forced to use the old toilet built by former President John Agyekum Kufuor, one frustrated resident lamented.

“We come to worship, but the smell makes it impossible to stay. Mosquitoes are biting us, we’re getting malaria, and we can’t even eat here.

The situation, they say, has not only endangered their health but also affected housing in the community.

Residents report that potential tenants refuse to rent rooms near the dumpsite because of the stench.

“Our houses are close to the dumping area, and because of the smell, no one wants to rent.

When it rains, the smell becomes even worse you can’t breathe, another resident added.

Some residents revealed that the late Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Hon. John Kumah, had begun constructing a new toilet facility for the community before his passing.

However, the project has been abandoned since 2018, with parts of the structure reportedly vandalized.

The toilet project started by the late John Kumah has been left unattended. The roofing sheets were even removed by an individual.

Since then, nothing has been done. Now, we have to use the garbage site or the old Kufuor-era toilet, which is full and poses health risks, a resident explained.

The community is appealing to the government, the Ejisu Municipal Assembly, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to come to their aid by completing the abandoned toilet project, providing proper waste bins, and ensuring regular waste collection.

End.
