Ashanti Region Residents Urge Drivers To Revert To Pre-Christmas Lorry Fares

Residents in the Ashanti Region are calling on drivers to reduce lorry fares to their pre-Christmas rates, citing the current economic hardships and decrease in fuel prices. According to them, drivers hiked fares without consultation during the Christmas season, and despite the festive period being over, fares remain high.

The residents expressed frustration, urging drivers to change their attitude and stop loading passengers at short distances.
They also appealed to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) to intervene, warning that if unchecked, the fare hikes might become permanent.

Some residents suggested that if drivers can’t adhere to regulations, the government should provide alternative transportation, such as buses, to replace commercial cars.

“There should be discipline and drivers must be regulated,” they emphasized.
