Floods Claim One Life In Twifo Atti-Morkwa; One Missing.

Heavy rainfall in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa district of the central region has led to two tragic drownings, including a recent Junior High School (JHS) graduate. Authorities are investigating the incidents and cautioning residents against unsafe river activities.

The first victim, a 45-year-old man, was reported missing three days ago in Morkwa.

His body was later recovered from the Pra River. On the same day, Alfred Kumi, a JHS graduate from Gomoa Ohua in the Gomoa West district, went missing after reportedly going to bathe in the Osen River in Twifo Edugya.

Alfred had been visiting his father to seek support for his further education after completing his 2026 BECE examinations. He has not returned home since.

District NADMO Director, Mr. James Pra, confirmed that one body has been retrieved and police investigations are ongoing for both cases. Mr. Pra strongly advised Ghanaians to immediately cease illegal sand winning activities near rivers, stating, “they are setting traps for people to die in rivers.”

He also appealed to regional and national NADMO to provide life jackets and other essential equipment to enhance their operational efficiency.
