Twifo Praso Agitated Family Turn Courtroom Red As Four Inmates Remanded For Allegedly Beating Fellow Cellmate To Death

The Twifo Praso District Court, presided over by His Worship Maxwell Foli Kpodo Esq., has remanded four detainees into police custody for two weeks for their alleged involvement in the brutal killing of a fellow inmate in the Twifo Praso Police cells.

The accused, John Nuamah (miner), Issah Ahmed (driver), Jonathan Appiah (driver), and Michael Adakpagu (mechanic), are facing charges of murder and conspiracy to commit a crime.

They are expected to reappear in court on January 27, 2026.

According to the facts presented by the Central North Regional Police Prosecutor, ASP Nana George Akomeah, the incident occurred on November 26, 2025, when George Anim, a 40-year-old man arrested for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl, was placed in a cell already occupied by 13 inmates, including the four suspects.

Prosecution alleged that a violent altercation erupted between George Anim and the accused, leading to severe beatings that caused his death.

ASP Akomeah pleaded with the court to grant police additional time to conclude investigations and await advice from the Attorney General’s Department. The judge granted the request and adjourned the case.

There was a heavy emotional atmosphere in the courtroom, with family members of the deceased visibly shaken and demanding justice for what they described as a preventable tragedy within police custody.
