Salaga South MP Visits Family Of Abused Dodowa Schoolgirl, Assures Them Of Justice And Support

The Member of Parliament for Salaga South Constituency, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimiah, has visited the family of Jalila Abdul Jalil, the Dodowa schoolgirl who was recently abused, to express her support and assure them that justice will be pursued.

Speaking during the visit, Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimiah said she decided to personally visit the family after hearing about the incident, in order to check on the well-being of both the victim and her parents.

Although the circumstances were painful, she said she was grateful to see Jalila looking stable and thanked God for sparing her life.

According to the MP, the victim’s mother informed her that Jalila had undergone surgery, which was successful, and they are hopeful for her full recovery.

The mother explained that her daughter left Akweteyman for Dodowa in pursuit of education, with the expectation that she would return home improved and empowered, not harmed.

She lamented that what happened to her child goes against the very purpose of educational and caregiving institutions.

Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimiah emphasized that the matter will be taken very seriously at the Parliamentary level, particularly by the Human Rights Committee and the Gender Committee.

She assured the family that the Speaker of Parliament will be formally briefed so that the necessary parliamentary procedures can be activated.

She stressed that no teacher, caregiver, or individual entrusted with the care of children should ever abuse that responsibility.

She further stated that the housemistress involved will be held accountable and made to face the full consequences of her actions, to serve as a deterrent to others who may abuse children under their care.

The MP added that the Ministry of Education will also be engaged to ensure such incidents do not recur.

Hon. Zuwera recalled that child abuse was a major concern raised during Ghana’s report to the Committee on the Rights of the Child, noting that such acts against vulnerable children are unacceptable.

She stressed that children lack the capacity to protect themselves, and adults have a moral and legal responsibility to safeguard them, especially when they are placed in their care.

She described the incident as deeply regrettable and vowed that it will be pursued with the seriousness it deserves.

Meanwhile, the family of Jalila Abdul Jalil expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimiah for the visit and her efforts, and prayed for justice to prevail.
