Kpone, Mahama Commissions Ghana’s First State Of The Art Pasta Processing Plant.

President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned Ghana’s first state-of-the-art pasta processing plant, established by OLAM Agri, in a move aimed at boosting local food production and reducing the country’s reliance on imported pasta products.

The new facility is expected to strengthen Ghana’s food processing sector by producing pasta using locally milled wheat flour, while creating employment opportunities and contributing to the country’s food security.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Mahama noted that the establishment of the plant represents an important step toward building a resilient economy driven by local production rather than imports.

He added that the facility will help generate sustainable jobs and support the government’s broader agenda of promoting industrial growth and value addition in the agricultural sector.

The Country Head of OLAM Agri in Ghana, Baibhav Biswas, said the plant currently has the capacity to produce about 43,000 tonnes of pasta annually.

He expressed optimism that with continued government support, the company would expand production to meet a larger share of Ghana’s growing demand for pasta products.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Trade and Agribusiness, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare indicated that the plant is expected to supply about 40 percent of the country’s pasta demand, with the remainder to be supplemented through imports.

According to her, the initiative will create jobs, support local industry and contribute to stabilising the cedi.
