Assin North 23-Year-Old Man Remanded For Attempted Murder.

The Assin Fosu District Court, presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, has remanded a 23-year-old man, Kwaku Amankwaah, into police custody for three weeks over an attempted murder charge.

He is expected to reappear before the court on April 9, 2026.

According to the prosecution, Inspector Matilda Osaah Buabeng, the incident occurred on Friday, March 13, 2026, when the suspect, a resident of Assin Akonfudi in the Assin North District of the Central Region, allegedly lured an 8-year-old girl (name withheld) into a bush near River Ankwasu at Assin Endwa and attempted to kill her with a sharpened machete.

The victim reportedly screamed for help, attracting the attention of passersby. The suspect fled the scene when attempts were made to apprehend him.

Later the same day, Amankwaah is said to have attacked a 46-year-old trader, identified only as Zaria, with a machete while she was returning from the market to her community at Assin Pewodie.

Her cries for help drew the attention of nearby farmers, who intervened and rescued her.

Following the incidents, an alarm was raised in both Assin Endwa and Pewodie, prompting residents, led by former Committee Chairman for Assin Endwa, Hon. Samuel Essel, to launch a manhunt.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly claimed an unnamed chief had contracted him to procure human body parts for ritual purposes.

However, some community members who spoke to Rich FM News suggested that the suspect may be mentally unstable.

The court granted a request by the prosecution to remand the suspect to enable police to complete their investigations.
