Traditional Council Demonstrate Over Galamsey In Berekum.

‎Traditional leaders and residents in Berekum are demonstrating over growing illegal mining at Amomaso.

‎Following the rise in illegal mining activities at Amomaso and other communities in Berekum, traditional leaders and the youth take to the streets today to protest against the menace. Addressing the media, nana owusu Ansah, Chief of Kato and Wirempehene of the Berekum traditional area, says they are not against mining, but will not tolerate any form of illegal or irresponsible community mining in the area.

‎The group therefore petitions the MPs for Berekum East and West constituencies, the Berekum Municipal and Berekum West Assemblies, the Berekum Traditional Council, and the Minerals Commission, urging them not to issue any permits for community mining or galamsey activities in the area.

‎Receiving the petition, the MP for Berekum East Constituency, SIMON AMPAABENG KYEREMEH, expresses his support for the group and assures them that he will present the petition to the appropriate authorities.
