Mfantseman Assembly Issues Ultimatum On Sanitation To Defaulters Inmates Removed Choke Gutters.

The Mfantseman Municipal Assembly, under the leadership of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah, has launched an intensified sanitation enforcement campaign in Mankessim.

A major clean-up operation targeting choked gutters was conducted and use inmates to remove choked gutters.

This exercise is a critical part of the Assembly’s ongoing environmental sanitation agenda, aimed at improving water flow and mitigating flood risks as the rainy season approaches .

The recent clean-up saw the clearing of heavily blocked drains throughout Mankessim .

This initiative is driven by an electoral-area-based sanitation strategy currently being implemented across the municipality.

The strategy involves collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit .

Out of the 36 electoral areas within the municipality, 30 have so far been covered by these efforts .

The Assembly’s efforts extend to ensuring compliance with sanitation regulations.

Previous exercises have included market area inspections to ensure adherence to proper waste management practices .

The Mfantseman Municipal Assembly is mandated to carry out regular environmental sanitation and hygiene enforcement .

This commitment to environmental sanitation is a core function of the Assembly, similar to other District Assemblies .

The Mfantseman Municipal Assembly has a history of engaging in sanitation drives and community hygiene initiatives .

These efforts are part of a broader mandate to manage municipal solid waste and improve environmental conditions .

The Assembly has also been involved in community development projects, such as the construction of community centers and business development training, alongside its sanitation agenda .

The Mfantseman Municipal Director of NADMO, Mr. Christian Abeiku Yankson, emphasized that Ghana is currently in the peak of the rainy season, stressing the need for proactive measures to prevent flooding and related disasters.

He urged residents to desist from dumping waste into gutters, noting that such behavior remains one of the leading causes of drainage blockages and urban flooding.

Speaking on behalf of the Environmental Health Unit Babah Alhasan, an officer of the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly highlighted that adequate tools, equipment, and stakeholder cooperation have been key to the success of the sanitation exercise.

He appealed to residents and business owners to maintain proper sanitation practices, stressing that sustaining clean communities requires collective responsibility.

The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining environmental cleanliness and improving public safety across all communities in the municipality
