Stench And Filth Take Over Kejetia As Overflowing Refuse Container Stays Uncollected For Two Weeks.

Traders and customers at Kejetia Market in the Ashanti Region are battling a foul stench and mounting filth after a refuse container was left uncollected for over three days, sparking complaints of neglect and poor waste management.

The abandoned container has overflowed, covering large sections of the market with garbage.
Traders say the situation has created unbearable conditions, with the bad odor spreading across stalls and affecting sales.

“We cannot sit here and sell in peace, The container has been full for almost three days and authorities have not come to empty it,” one trader told Sompa News.

Customers are also avoiding parts of the market due to the smell, while flies and rodents have become common around the waste pile.

Some traders say they now have to wear face masks just to stay at their stalls.
The traders say the neglect is affecting both their health and their livelihoods, and are calling on the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and waste management contractors to act immediately.

They want authorities to ensure regular evacuation of refuse and a proper waste management system in the market to prevent a possible outbreak of sanitation-related diseases.
