Aboabugya Residents Petition Asantehene Over Release Of Last Surviving Land For 24-Hour Market.

Residents of Aboabugya in the Afigya Kwabre South District of the Ashanti Region have made a passionate appeal to His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to intervene after their Chief allegedly released their only surviving community land to the Assembly for the construction of a 24-hour market.

According to the aggrieved residents, this is not the first time communal lands have been taken from them.

They fear losing their last remaining land will leave future generations with nothing.

Speaking to Sompa News, Obaapani Attaa Dankwah of Aboabugya accused the Aboabugya Chief of taking away the community’s property without proper consultation.

She called on the Asantehene to step in and help reclaim the land for the people.

The Chief is taking all our property from us. This land is the only one left for Aboabugya. We are begging Otumfuo to come to our aid.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Yaw Amoah, a member of the royal family, vowed that they will not sit idle while their last surviving land is taken away.

He insisted that the community deserves to be involved in any decision concerning their land.

We will not sit down for our only land to be taken from us. We must have a say in what happens to Aboabugya lands.”

Responding to the concerns, the District Chief Executive for Afigya Kwabre South, Hon. Patricia Pearl Ankrah, explained the Assembly’s position.

She disclosed how the Assembly acquired the land and called on the residents to exercise patience as engagements continue.

“We followed due process to acquire the land for the 24-hour market project. It is a development for Aboabugya. We urge the people to remain calm as we engage all stakeholders.”
