Wassa East KG2 Pupil Dies After Alleged Snake Bite On School Compound.

A five-year-old Kindergarten Two (KG2) pupil of Ahomakormua D/A Primary School in the Wassa East District of the Western Region has reportedly died after being bitten by a snake on the school compound.

The deceased, identified as Christiana Opare, was allegedly attacked by the reptile during break time while playing with her colleagues on the school premises.

The snake is believed to have emerged from the bushy surroundings of the school compound.

Following the incident, Christiana was rushed to the Ekutuase CHPS Compound for emergency medical attention.

Due to the severity of her condition, she was later referred to Elmina Hospital for further treatment.

However, she reportedly passed away while being transported to the facility.

Speaking in an interview, the father of the deceased, Mr. Ernest Opare, blamed the tragedy on the poor state of the school environment.

He alleged that overgrown weeds and bushes on the compound provide breeding and hiding grounds for dangerous reptiles, including snakes.

Mr. Opare also questioned the response to the incident, claiming that delays in securing medical attention for his daughter may have contributed to her death.

According to him, a swifter response could have increased her chances of survival.

The bereaved mother, Madam Ama Vida, appealed to school authorities and relevant stakeholders to prioritize the safety of pupils by ensuring regular maintenance of school compounds.

She urged management of schools to keep their environments clean and free from bushes that could harbor harmful animals and pose a threat to children.

The incident has left residents of the community in shock and renewed concerns over safety conditions in schools, particularly those located in areas prone to snake infestations.
