Stop Charging Illegal Fares” – Kronum Pragyia Station Master Cracks Down, 3 Drivers Arrested.

The Kronum Pragyia Station Master, Mr. Elvis Nyantakyi, alias Yesmadam, has cautioned tricycle operators at the station against charging passengers unapproved fares ahead of the official increment date.
Speaking to Sompa News, Mr. Nyantakyi said although national union of tricycle operators have proposed a 20% fare adjustment to take effect on June 22, some Pragyia drivers have already started implementing the increase on their own.
“Executives have informed us that the increment will be on June 22.
But those who have already started increasing fares should be careful. You cannot charge your own price,” he warned.
Mr. Nyantakyi, who doubles as the Assembly Member for the Kronum Kyerase Electoral Area in the Suame Municipality, revealed that the station has taken disciplinary action against offenders.
“So far, the police have arrested three drivers for charging unapproved fares and for misconduct.
Others have also been suspended from the station for some weeks due to their bad attitude,” he disclosed.
He stressed that the station is awaiting official communication on the fare adjustment from the Ashanti Regional transport leadership before any increment can be implemented.
“We are waiting for the approved fares from the regional level on June 22. Until then, the current fares remain.
No Pragyia driver should take the law into his own hands,” he added.
Mr. Nyantakyi appealed to passengers to remain calm and cooperate with Pragyia drivers once the new fares are formally announced.
“We urge passengers to cooperate with our drivers when the new fare arrives. But for now, report any driver who charges more than the approved fare to the station,” he said.
The station master assured that the union will continue to monitor activities at the station to ensure discipline and protect passengers from exploitation.
