Unauthorized Development Thereatens Newly Constructed Apremdo Bridge.

The newly constructed bridge over the River Whin at Apremdo in the Western Region is under threat from unauthorized development activities along its banks.

Sections of the riverbank close to the bridge have been filled to pave the way for the establishment of a car washing bay, a situation that has significantly narrowed the natural flow of the river.

Officials fear that the obstruction could cause the river to overflow its banks during heavy rains, putting nearby residents at risk.

There are also concerns that the restricted flow may result in gradual erosion around the bridge’s foundations, potentially compromising the integrity of its pillars.

Mr. Agyei Frimpong, an official of the Ghana Highways Authority, expressed concern over the development and warned that encroachment on waterways poses a serious threat to critical infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of JUSTMOH Company Limited, Dr. Justice Amoh, has appealed to the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to take immediate steps to remove the unauthorized structures and restore the river’s natural course.

According to him, swift intervention is necessary to avert a possible disaster and safeguard the newly constructed bridge, which serves as a vital link for motorists and residents in the area.

End.
