Fruit Sellers At Racecourse Cry Out Over Refuse Container In The Middle Of Their Stalls.

Fruit sellers at the Racecourse Market in Kumasi are calling for urgent intervention, saying a refuse container sited in the middle of their trading area is making them sick and driving customers away.

The sellers say the container is often left full for days without being emptied.

This has created a strong, unpleasant smell that they say is causing headaches and breathing difficulties.

“It is really affecting us. We are all sick and cannot even breathe in well because of the bad smell coming from the container,” some of the fruit sellers disclosed.

They added that because fruit is not cooked food, it is easily exposed to contamination.

Houseflies from the dump have taken over their fruits, and customers now avoid buying from them.

“People think our fruits are not safe to eat because of the flies. Our market is being destroyed,” they lamented.

The fruit sellers are therefore making an urgent appeal to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and waste management authorities to relocate the container from their section to a more appropriate location.
