Zongo Chief Leads Massive Clean-Up Exercise, Calls For Strict Sanitation By Laws On Community Participation.

In line with the government’s directive designating the first Saturday of every month as National Sanitation Day, the Gomoa Bantama/Adade/Millennium City Zongo Chief, Saliki Abdul Rahman Abubakar* has funded and organised a massive clean-up exercise and drainage desilting campaign at his communities for a clean and safe environment.

The Zongo Chief who provided wheel Barrows and other logistics engaged the Youths to volunteer and desilted heavily choked gutters to improve the free flow of water and help prevent flooding in the community.

Addressing the press after the exercise, Transport Officer at the Gomoa East District Assembly Frederick Mensah-Brown who represented the DCE(Hon. Margaret Naana Ackom) commended the Zongo Chief Sariki Abdul Rahman Abubakar for his commitment to Environmental Sanitation.

He urged individuals, community leaders, and organisations to emulate the initiative by supporting efforts to keep their communities clean.

Mr. Mensah-Brown further disclosed that the Assembly is making efforts to reshape some of the deplorable roads across the Gomoa East District to improve accessibility.

Some residents who participated in the exercise however, expressed disappointment over the low turnout of community members.

They have appealed to the Assembly to intensify Public Education and awareness ahead of future sanitation exercises to encourage greater participation.

They also called on the Assembly to strictly enforce Sanitation By-Laws against persons who fail to comply with Community Clean-Up Exercises.

Additionally, they appealed for the provision of adequate logistics logistics, and protective gear to ensure future exercises are carried out effectively and safely.
