Ashanti Region Students Plead With Government To Resolve Teachers’ Strike.

Public school students in the Ashanti Region have appealed to government to urgently address the concerns of striking teachers to enable them return to the classroom.

The students, mostly from basic and junior high schools in the Kumasi Metropolis, made the appeal when our news team visited some schools this morning.

Many classrooms were empty, with only a few students seen stranded on the school compounds with no academic activity ongoing.

Some of the students who spoke to Atinka News reporter, Sofoba Kwame Afrifah, said they have been coming to school since Friday but are left idle as their teachers have stayed away in compliance with the industrial action declared by GNAT, NAGRAT and PRETAG.

They expressed fear that the continuous stay of teachers away from the classroom will affect their studies and preparation for the upcoming end-of-term examinations.

They are therefore pleading with government, the Ministry of Education and the leadership of the teacher unions to quickly reach an agreement for teaching and learning to resume.

Meanwhile, teachers in the region say they will not return to the classroom until all their demands including the placement of promoted teachers, the 20 percent Deprived Area Allowance and the signing of a new Collective Agreement are met.
