Sofoline Bruhaha: Drivers Association Acting Chairman Pledges Full support For Planned Banking Facility At Terminal.

There is confusion at the Sofoline Lorry Terminal in Kumasi, following a decision by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly to allocate a store room at the terminal for the Atwima Nwabiagya Community Banking Company.

Drivers at the terminal on Tuesday staged a protest over the proposed takeover of their office complex by the bank, after an eviction notice allegedly issued by the two assemblies asking them to vacate the premises by Friday, October 9, 2026, or face forced eviction.

The outgone Sofoline Chairman, Albert Boamah, said the dispute dates back to 2019, when the KMA reportedly issued a notice over rent arrears amounting to 12 billion old Ghana cedis, in relation to the proposed allocation of the facility to banking operators.

Meanwhile, some aggrieved drivers who are in support of the Assembly’s decision, this morning threw out logistics of station masters who had earlier started work in the hall, in a bid to pave way for the bank.

The Acting Drivers Chairman for the Drivers Association, Charles Kwasi Adusei, has backed the Municipal Assembly’s decision to rent the store room to the Atwima Nwabiagya Community Banking Company, saying it will help drivers have easy access to banking services.

Chairman Adusei, on behalf of drivers and traders, pledged their full support for the decision of the Municipal Assembly.

The fate of the facility now hangs in the balance as the October 9 deadline approaches.
