A//R Ashanti Region Security Agencies Commemorate 79th Remembrance Day With Wreath-Laying Ceremony

In a solemn ceremony at the Kumasi Cenotaph, security agencies across the Ashanti Region gathered on November 11 to commemorate the 79th National Remembrance Day, paying tribute to the gallant Ghanaian soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the World Wars and various peacekeeping missions around the globe.

The event brought together veterans, current military personnel, and officials from a range of security institutions, reflecting Ghana’s enduring commitment to honoring its servicemen and women.
The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officers from the Ghana Armed Forces, Police Service, Fire Service, Immigration Service, and Prisons Service, each of whom took turns to lay wreaths in memory of the fallen heroes.

The event concluded with a coordinated march by members of the security agencies, symbolizing unity and dedication to the protection and peace of Ghana. The ceremony not only commemorated the fallen heroes but also highlighted the collective responsibility of all Ghanaians to foster peace, unity, and respect for the sacrifices made by the country’s servicemen and women.
Speaking to the media after the short ceremony, Kumasi Mayor, Hon. Samuel Pyne who representing the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah at the ceremony, emphasized the enduring value of the sacrifices made by these servicemen and women, noting that the peace and freedom Ghanaians enjoy today are a direct result of their selfless service.

“The sacrifices made by these men and women are the foundation of our peace and freedom today,” Hon. Pyne stated. “It is our responsibility to preserve the peace they fought for and ensure it benefits future generations.”

On his part, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Veterans Administration Ghana (VAG), Ex-Warrant Officer Class One George Appiah, also took part in the ceremony and shared his reflections on the day’s significance. He expressed appreciation for the observance, underscoring the importance of honoring past service members while also providing continuous support to current personnels.
Mr George Appiah used the occasion to call on all Ghanaians to contribute to peaceful national elections, Urging them to be mindful of the messages they convey on campaign platforms, especially in the lead-up to the December 7 general elections. His words served as a powerful reminder of the role leaders play in fostering peace and stability.
“To our presidential flagbearers, I urge you to be considerate of your messages. Let us prioritize peace and work towards an election that unites rather than divides,” he apappealed.
