Farmers At Mpasaaso No.2 Cry Over Destruction Of Their Farmlands By illegal Chainsaw Operators

Farmers at Mpasaaso No.2 in the Ahafo-ano South West district of the Ashanti region are crying bitterly over the destruction of their farmlands by illegal chainsaw operators.

The affected farmers who have since been appealing to the Government through Ghana forestry commission and other authorities to come to intervene have threatened to take the law into their own hands if the situation should continue .

More than one hundred farmers in the community have been affected over the destruction of their farmlands at the tano-offin forest.

Speaking to Onua News in an interview, the farmers revealed that they have planted over seven thousand trees in the Tano-offin forest.

According to them, the armed illegal chainsaw operators have invaded the forest cutting the trees and destructing their farm produce.

The women cannot go to their farm hence they fear for their lives . The operators and their security guards are fully armed and it is difficult to confront them alone in the bush. They said;

Meanwhile the Assembly Member of Mpasaaso No.2 Charles Kwadwo Asare, said all effort to get the illegal chainsaw operators from the area has proven fertile and therefore appealed to the Ghana forestry commission to come to their aid.
