Banahenekrom Community In Darkness Residents Cry Out For Basic Amenities

The residents of Banahenekrom in the Ahafo Ano South-East district of the Ashanti region are crying out for help, citing a lack of basic social amenities that has made life unbearable for them.
Despite being a major food-producing community in the region, Banahenekrom has been neglected by successive governments, leaving its residents to suffer in silence.
The community lacks electricity, school buildings, good roads, and quality water, making life extremely difficult for its residents.
In an interview with Sompa FM’s Bawah Baidoo, residents revealed the harsh realities they face daily.
Students have to walk for a mile to access quality water, which has serious implications for their health and education.
The lack of toilets and lighting in schools has forced teachers and students to resort to the bush, exposing them to serious health risks.
“When it rains, the school becomes a river, and we have to close down,” said a teacher. “The students have to walk a long distance to fetch water, which affects their academic performance.”
Residents also revealed that when they fall ill, they have to travel to Adugyama or Offinso to access medical treatment, as the community lacks a healthcare facility.
This has resulted in the loss of precious lives, as some residents are unable to afford the transportation costs to seek medical attention.
“The lack of healthcare facility in this community is a major challenge,” said a resident. “We have lost many lives because we couldn’t access medical care on time.”
The residents of Banahenekrom are calling on the government to intervene and provide them with the basic amenities they need to live dignified lives.
They believe it is unfair for them to be neglected despite their significant contribution to the country’s food security.
“We are part of Ghana, and we produce a lot of food for the country, but we have been neglected,” said a resident.
“We are crying out for help, and we hope the government will listen to our plea and come to our aid.”
Hon. Dawuda Usif, the assembly member for the area, has expressed his concerns about the struggles of his community. He spoke to Bawah Baidoo, highlighting the dire situation his people are facing and urging the government to intervene.
This call to action emphasizes the need for immediate attention to address the challenges faced by the community, including inadequate access to basic amenities.
