We the Ghana National Cocoa Farmers Association (GNACOFA) representing over seven hundred thousand (700,000) small holder cocoa farmers across the country are expressing their warm congratulations message to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for your impressive victory in the 2024 Presidential Elections.
We are encouraged by your renewed commitment to fulfilling your promise to reset Ghana ,which is anchored on restoring hope and creating opportunities for all citizens, as stated in your speech at the recent thanksgiving service.
Addressing the media by *the national chairman of the association, Mr Stephenson Anane Boateng at their 1st executive meeting in 2025,* he said, they also extend their warmest congratulations Hon Eric Opoku on your appointment as Minister for Food and Agriculture .
He said, your leadership comes at a pivotal moment for Ghana’s cocoa sector,and we are confident that your vision, evidenced by your articulate vetting responses,we steer the industry toward sustainable growth and resilience.
He also outlined some of their challenges by saying, Ghana’s cocoa production is currently facing significant challenges, as highlighted in recent parliamentary discussions. Yields have dropped to a 20- year low of 530,000 metric tons,and the country has defaulted on an $800 millions syndicated loan.This situation has severally impacted farmers and is linked to unmet production targets, highlighting the urgent need to revitalise the sector.
They also congratulate Hon Dr Fransford Abbey for his appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Cocobod ,your appointment has generated great enthusiasm in our organisation as a breath of fresh air in an industry that is in dire need of revitalization and transformation.
He therefore outlined some of their challenges by adding the delaying of the Cocoa Pension Scheme Policy, the current price of cocoa is very low, the disrespect of cocoa farmers in the country and a lot of others.
