A/R Bawumia Outlines Plans To Deal With Illegal Small Scale Mining
In response to calls for addressing the issue of illegal small-scale mining, Dr. Bawumia outlined a series of measures aimed at promoting responsible mining practices among artisanal miners.
These include the creation of a Minerals Development Bank to support sustainable and regulated mining activities. He announced that government will adopt the usage of lime on soils in the degraded mining sites to improve fertility of soil to enhance food production .
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced a new initiative to provide free tertiary education for children of cocoa farmers. Addressing the chiefs and people of Jacobu to mark this year’s Farmers’ Day, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the critical role cocoa farmers play in Ghana’s economy and underscored the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on these families through education support.
He explained that the policy aims to empower families by creating educational opportunities, which can lead to economic mobility and stability. The initiative, if implemented, will cover tuition and associated costs for eligible students, allowing children of cocoa farmers to pursue their dreams without financial constraints.
The chief of Jacobu , Nana Adu Darko , appealed to the Vice President to prioritize Agriculture as a means of enhancing economic growth of the country , stressing that government should take interest in protecting the forest reserves at the expense of mining gold , since Agriculture is the backbone of the country’s economy.
The NPP Parliamentary candidate for Jacobu , Anthony Mmieh , entreated the youth of the area to venture Agriculture to make it more lucrative and source of livelihood, emphasizing the vast land that the community is endowed with , he also appealed to the Vice President to help in mechanization of farming in the country in his next government.
Adding that Dr. Bawumia’s vision captured in the party’s manifestos indicates that commitment of NPP government towards food production in country .
