World Health Day Prioritise Sanitation To Promote Healthy Living – Assin North DCE Urges Residents.

The District Chief Executive for Assin North, Hon. Sylvester Amakye-Nyarkoh, has urged residents to make cleanliness a daily habit and instil proper sanitation practices in their children to promote healthy living.

According to him, sanitation should not be treated as an occasional exercise but embraced as a consistent lifestyle to help prevent diseases and protect the environment.

Hon. Amakye-Nyarkoh made the call after leading residents across three electoral areas in a large-scale clean-up exercise as part of activities marking World Health Day.

The exercise, which covered Assin Odumase, Afenase-Wawase, and Assin Asibirem electoral areas, attracted traditional leaders, assembly members, community members, and Environmental Health Officers from the District Assembly.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Assembly to ensure a clean and safe environment while strengthening community participation in sanitation management.

Speaking in an interview, the DCE noted that the exercise aligns with the broader vision of President John Dramani Mahama to prioritise sanitation and public health.

He explained that such initiatives are expected to reduce sanitation-related diseases, improve overall public health, and curb environmental pollution.

The Assin North District Environmental Health Director, Mr Samuel Eklu Fiankor, also stressed that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility that must not be taken lightly.

He warned that authorities will not hesitate to take strict action against individuals who flout sanitation regulations.

Meanwhile, the Queen Mother of Assin Asibirem, Nana Asabea, commended the DCE for his commitment to improving sanitation in the district.

She, however, appealed for support in the provision of dustbins and tools to facilitate communal labour, and also called for job opportunities for women in the area to improve their livelihoods.
