Cattle Rearers Association Calls For Security Intervention Over Cattle Killings In Berekum Before They Take The Law Into Their Hands.

Cattle Rearers Association in Berekum, located in the Bono Region, has made an urgent appeal to the Bono Regional Minister, as well as the Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) of the Berekum East and West Municipal and District Assemblies, seeking immediate security intervention to the alarming increase in the number of cattle killings occurring in Berekum.

During a press conference, Mr. Evans Okyere, the Vice Chairman of the Berekum Cattle Rearers Association, expressed profound concern for the safety and livelihood of local herders.

He highlighted that their cattle and herdsmen are being shot and killed in the bush, a situation that is not only collapsing their business but also posing security threats.

He indicated that there is an urgent need for the Bono Regional Minister and relevant security stakeholders to intervene and address this situation, as it presents a significant risk to the agricultural economy of the area because these cattle constitute a vital source of income and sustenance for numerous families.

Majeed Moro, the Chief Butcher in Berekum, expressed concern regarding the insufficient availability of cattle, which poses a threat to the prosperity of their business.

He said this situation has arisen due to the ongoing destruction faced by cattle rearers and the killing of their livestock.

He appealed to the Bono Regional Minister, the Police Commander, Nananom, and relevant stakeholders to urgently address this issue and find a lasting solution, as the continued killing of cattle is severely impacting their business as butchers due to scarcity of cattle

Mohammed Sefew, a cattle rearer, on behalf of his members conveyed their distress to Angel News, explaining that they have obtained a concession for cattle rearing.

Unfortunately, certain individuals have encroached upon this area, using it for maize and other crop cultivation, and have taken advantage of the situation to kill the cattle.

He noted that despite repeated reports to the police, no action has been taken thus far hence they are calling for immediate intervention to resolve the situation and ensure peace prevails before any retaliatory measures are considered.
