Presbyterian Church Moderator Urges Stronger Fight Against Galamsey.

The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare-Kwakye, has called on government, traditional authorities, and all relevant institutions to step up efforts to stop illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

He said the destruction caused by galamsey to water bodies, farmlands, and the environment is becoming alarming and requires urgent attention from everyone.

According to him, the fight against illegal mining must not be turned into a political issue but handled as a national concern.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Opare-Kwakye also expressed concern over attacks on some clergy members who have spoken openly against galamsey.

He said religious leaders have a duty to speak on important national matters and should not be insulted for defending the environment.

He stressed that no one should remain silent while the country’s natural resources are being destroyed, adding that those who speak the truth must be supported.

The Moderator made these remarks during the 8th Congregation Ceremony of the Presbyterian University, Ghana (PUG), Abetifi Campus, where he also advised graduates to become responsible citizens and contribute positively to national development.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor John Ofosu-Anim, encouraged the graduates to use the knowledge and skills they have gained to solve societal problems and help improve the nation.

End.
