Agona East Joins Mahama Free Healthcare Programme.

The Agona East District has officially joined the Free Healthcare Programme introduced by the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, aimed at providing accessible healthcare services to people living in rural communities across the country.

The initiative, which is expected to improve healthcare delivery and reduce the financial burden on citizens, is also set to complement the operations of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Speaking in an interview with Angel TV reporter Nana Kojo Asare, the Regional Director of the NHIS emphasized the importance of the programme and urged residents to take full advantage of it.

According to him, the Mahama Free Healthcare Programme will work hand in hand with the NHIS to ensure quality and affordable healthcare services for Ghanaians, especially those in underserved communities.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for Agona East, Samuel Oscar Mensah, cautioned some health workers against the alleged practice of hiding government-supplied drugs and selling private medicines to patients who visit health facilities.

He warned that such acts undermine government efforts to improve healthcare delivery and called on nurses and other health professionals to uphold professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties.

The DCE also commended President Mahama for introducing the programme, noting that it would greatly support the livelihoods of people living in rural areas.

In addition, the District Director of NHIS for Agona East and Agona West, Nana Dodoo, appealed to residents, particularly those in the Agona enclave, to use the opportunity to register and renew their NHIS cards in order to fully benefit from the programme.

He stressed that active participation in the NHIS remains essential in ensuring continuous access to healthcare services.
