On The Streets Of Cape Coast As Dozens Of Residents Call For The Release Of Daniel Yussif.

Residents of Cape Coast in the Central Region took to the main streets on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, to demand the release of Daniel Yussif, popularly known as “Oboy Slay.”

The protesters, which began around 2:00 p.m., brought together family members, residents and youth.

Daniel Yussif, who comes from Esukyira in Cape Coast, was arrested on January 14, 2026, at Kotoka International Airport by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over alleged involvement in an internet fraud case.

His friend Abu Trica, who is also implicated, has been granted bail.

Dubbed the “Free Daniel Yussif” demonstration, the march saw large numbers of participants carrying placards as they walked through the town to express their concerns.

At a press address held at the convened end point at Cape Coast Stadium, Nana King said Daniel has been in custody for approximately five months following his arrest at the Accra airport.

They, urged the authorities to release Yussif, describing continued detention in police custody as unjustified.

Hajara Ali, the mother of Daniel Yussif, made an emotional appeal to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General in an interview with an Onua reporter, asking for intervention to secure her son’s release.

She said Daniel recently underwent surgery and needs ongoing medical attention, “My son is sick. A few months ago he had surgery and needs medical care.

As we speak, his health is getting worse. All i am asking is that he be granted bail,” she said.

Growing concern and support from sections of the youth, who are calling on the authorities handling the case to release Yussif.

The next court date is Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Accra Gbese District Court.
