Assin North District Assembly Records 76 Disaster Incidents In One Year – DCE Express Worry.

The Assin North District Assembly in the Central Region has recorded 76 disaster incidents across its ten operational zones within the past year.

The incidents included 33 domestic fire outbreaks, 20 bushfires, 15 rainstorm and windstorm cases, six building collapses, and two galamsey pit collapses.

A report presented at the First Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Second Assembly revealed that the National Disaster Management Organisation, NADMO, provided relief support to 82 victims after conducting assessments in affected communities.

The report also identified flooding concerns at the Bediadua lorry station due to choked gutters and poor drainage.

District Chief Executive, Sylvester Amakye Nyarkoh, described the situation as abnormal and called for immediate corrective measures.

NADMO and the Assembly have intensified public education and clean-up exercises to prevent future occurrences.

Meanwhile, the district has strengthened disaster preparedness efforts through the activation of Disaster Volunteer Groups and Community Resilience Teams.

Forty volunteers have been trained and equipped to support public education, early warning dissemination, and emergency response activities in their communities.

The initiative is expected to improve emergency response and reduce communities’ dependence on external assistance during disasters.

Assembly Members have also been urged to support the volunteer groups to help build resilient communities capable of responding effectively to emergencies.
