Three Bobies Recovered From Klagon River After Tema West Floods.

The Deputy Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) at the Tema West Municipal Assembly, Loretta Nana-Hemaa Frimpong, has confirmed that three bodies were retrieved from the Klagon River following last Wednesday’s devastating floods in parts of the Tema West Constituency.
The heavy downpour, which lasted for several hours, left many homes submerged and caused extensive destruction to property, displacing residents and disrupting economic activities in affected communities.
According to Madam Frimpong, the floodwaters overwhelmed the Klagon River and submerged portions of the Klagon Bridge, which is currently under construction.
The situation made it difficult for motorists to determine the depth and strength of the floodwaters before attempting to cross, thereby exposing road users to significant danger.
Speaking in an interview with Rebecca Lartey after assessing the aftermath of the disaster, she disclosed that three bodies were recovered from the river following the flooding incident.
Madam Frimpong attributed the recurring flooding in the area largely to unauthorized developments on waterways and drainage channels, warning that the continuous encroachment on natural watercourses is worsening the flood situation and putting lives at risk.
Meanwhile, the Klagon Chief, Nii Bortey Klan I, has blamed part of the flooding problem on the stalled road construction project in the area.
He appealed to the government to ensure the immediate return of the contractor to site to complete the project, arguing that the delay has contributed to the drainage challenges confronting residents.
He further urged government agencies to work closely with traditional authorities to tackle unauthorized developments on waterways, stressing that chiefs must be actively involved in efforts to protect drainage corridors and prevent future flooding disasters.
