Over three Injured As Timber Logs Fall On Two Vehicles in Kumasi.

Ovet three persons have sustained serious degree of injuries while four others escaped unhurt after timber logs fell from a truck onto two vehicles along the New Road in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The accident, which occurred in broad daylight, has raised fresh concerns about road safety and the transportation of heavy goods in the municipality.
According to one of the drivers, Kwame Adu Brefo, the traffic lights at the intersection were not functioning at the time, and an MTTD officer was directing traffic.
He said the truck carrying the timber logs was blowing its horn when it hit his vehicle, causing the logs to start falling off.
“The traffic light was not working so the MTTD officer was controlling the traffic.
The truck was blowing horn and it hit my car, and all of a sudden the timber started falling off the truck,” Mr. Brefo narrated.
Mr Brefo say the falling logs crashed onto two vehicles that were in front of the truck.
Three occupants sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Four other passengers escaped unhurt.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and the Police MTTD rushed to the scene to clear the road and rescue those trapped.
He called on authorities to enforce strict regulations on how timber and other heavy goods are transported to prevent a recurrence.
Mr Brefo also appealed to the Department of Urban Roads to fix the faulty traffic lights to avoid similar accidents.
