A 30-year-old man, Samuel Gyasi, has been handed over to the Akyem Oda District Police for allegedly transferring GH¢3,000.00 from a customer’s phone to his mobile money account.

The incident occurred at Akyem Essam in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region.

According to the victim, Mr. Samuel Kwakye, popularly known as Yaw Kwakye, the suspect claimed to be a Telecel Ghana agent.

Mr. Kwakye said he gave Gyasi his phone to help him buy airtime.

However, he later realized that GH¢3,000.00 had been transferred from his phone to the suspect’s MoMo line.

In his statement to the police, Gyasi admitted to the transfer.

He claimed he was owing an MTN Quick Loan and, after seeing a large amount of money on the phone, he transferred the GH¢3,000.00 with the intention of paying the loan and refunding the money to Mr. Kwakye later.

The police have commenced investigations into the matter.
