GTA Calls On African Countries To Preserve Heritage, Promote Unity, And Reject Xenophobia.
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has called on all African countries to preserve their cultural heritage, promote unity, and reject all forms of xenophobia to strengthen the continent’s development.
The Central Regional Marketing Director of the GTA, Mr. Wisdom Ahadzie, made the call during the Emancipation Day commemoration at the Assin Praso Heritage Village.
He said Africa’s cultural diversity remains one of its greatest strengths, stressing that abandoning African traditions, customs, and ancestral values would amount to denying the continent’s identity and rich history.
Mr. Ahadzie urged Africans to embrace their shared heritage and work together for the continent’s progress, noting that unity is the foundation for sustainable development while division only weakens Africa’s collective aspirations.
He also welcomed members of the African diaspora who attended the celebration, describing their return as a reconnection with their ancestral roots and a significant step towards strengthening ties between Africa and its descendants across the world.
The Krontihene of Assin Praso and Assin Jaakai, Nana Baffour Adjei X, appealed to the Government, the Ghana Tourism Authority, corporate organisations, and the business community to support the development of the Assin Praso Heritage Village into a major tourism destination.
He thanked stakeholders for their continued support and encouraged Ghanaians, businesses, and international visitors to explore the community’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for Assin North, Hon. Sylvester Amakye Nyarko, said although the transatlantic slave trade had ended, many Ghanaians remained mentally enslaved by negative attitudes and behaviours.
He urged citizens to adopt a positive mindset, reject behaviours that undermine national development, and embrace values that promote unity, patriotism, and progress.
According to the DCE, Ghana’s true freedom can only be fully realised when citizens transform their attitudes and way of thinking, adding that a change in mindset is essential for sustainable national development.
