Ghana Army Concludes Operation “Exercise Starlight Stretch III” In Nkwanta.
The Ghana Army’s Southern Command has successfully concluded its major internal security exercise, dubbed “Exercise Starlight Stretch III” in Nkwanta in the Oti Region.
The Exercise was aimed at enhancing the operational preparedness of troops to respond to emerging security threats and to reassure residents to go about their normal duties without fear and panic
The two-week field training exercise brought together Combat, Combat Support, and Combat Service Support Units to test formation-level planning and coordination in Internal Security and Counter-Insurgency Operations.
It also focused on strengthening Civil-Military cooperation and interoperability with other security and civil institutions.
The General Officer Commanding the Southern Command, Brigadier General Edward Awaribey , said the exercise was critical to restoring total peace and stability to Nkwanta following recent conflicts involving the Akyode, Challa and Adele Ethnic Groups.
Brigadier General Awaribey appealed to residents of Nkwanta South to cooperate with the Military, reminding them that Ghana is the only country we have and we must protect it together.
He finally cautioned all troublemakers to desist from fomenting violence, stressing that the military is in full force to ensure lasting peace for all to go about their lawful activities safely.
On his part, the Nkwanta South Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Joseph Kwame Antwi Awal Aboubakar, commended the Ghana Armed Forces for their timely intervention and urged residents not to let the gains made by the military go to waste.
Present at the closing ceremony were Senior military officers including Colonel Appiah, Colonel Lawrence Seddoh Agbedanu, Lt. Col. Enoch Awudu of the 1st Infantry Battalion, Lt. Col. Madam Anakwa, Major Muktar Saani and Capt. Clifford Tetteh of the Nkwanta Detachment.
Other dignitaries included Divisional Police Commander ACP Michael Kwabena Asiedu, ASP Julius Goxoxo, and the Nkwanta South Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Musah Mahama.
