ADR Courts To End Land Disputes – Dr. Gyamera Urges Gov’t.
The Chairman of the Southern Sector of the Institution of Engineering and Technology Ghana (IET-GH), Engr. Surv. Dr. Ebenezer Gyamera, has appealed to the government through the Ghana Judicial Service to set up dedicated ADR courts across the country to help resolve land cases quickly, describing the normal land litigation process as quite lengthy.
He was commenting on the mob attack at New Winneba in which three people died and 17 others were injured over a land dispute.
Dr. Gyamera said the courts are overwhelmed with land litigation cases and the government should establish Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms that include surveyors, or set up dedicated ADR courts to help resolve such cases quickly.
He explained that if land cases that go to court are referred to an ADR court and its findings are acceptable to the judge, the new approach would help fast-track cases that have stayed too long in court.
He added that the process for resolving normal land litigation cases in court takes a long time, and the delays create confusion between the parties involved.
