Tarkwa NDC Defends MP And MCE Over Mining Shaft Claims, Says Action Benefits Community

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives in Tarkwa Nsuaem have addressed recent rumors alleging that the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area,

Hon. Issah Salifu Taylor, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Ebenezer Cobbinah, unlawfully took over mining shafts from unlicensed miners for personal gain.

In a press conference led by the William Appiah – Communication Officer in Tarkwa, the NDC clarified that the mining shaft in question was not taken for the MP or MCE’s private interest but rather handed over to the community as part of its rightful entitlement.

The shafts, previously controlled by the unlicensed “Wobedibi” group, have been redirected to serve the people of Brahabebom and Tarkwa-Na-Aboso in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region.

According to the party, these communities had long been shortchanged in the local mining economy.

Workers faced bullying, unfair treatment, and unequal division of gold ore.

It was revealed that the underground sub-concessions were monopolized by family members of the Wobedibi group leader, turning the site into a family business.

Traditional leaders (Nananom) and other small-scale miners were excluded from benefiting from the operation.

The NDC also responded to accusations made by individuals associated with the Wobedibi group.

Ambrose Ocloo, popularly known as Cudjoe, who spoke on Neat FM in Kumasi, and Cobbinah Yeboah, who made statements on XYZ, were accused of spreading misinformation targeting Hon. Issah Salifu Taylor and Tarkwa NDC Chairman Danladi Salifu.

The urged those involve in spoiling the mp and the mce to desist from the act or face legal action .

Adding his voice to the defense, the Security Coordinator for Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, Mr. Ali Salifu Gara, dismissed reports that the MP and MCE organized individuals to confront security officers at the Brahabebom mining site.

The Tarkwa Nsuaem NDC has vowed to continue prioritizing community welfare and to stand against misinformation aimed at derailing development efforts in the municipality.
