Ghana Health Service To Revamp CHPS Compounds To Reduce High Maternal Death

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is taking steps to address the high rate of maternal deaths in the Ashanti Region.

According to Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng, the Ashanti Regional Health Director, the region has a high rate of maternal deaths, particularly in rural areas.

To combat this issue, the GHS plans to revamp the CHPS (Community-based Health Planning and Services) compounds in these areas, as many maternal deaths are due to referral cases.

The GHS’s efforts to revamp CHPS compounds aim to reduce maternal mortality rates by improving access to quality healthcare services, especially in rural areas.

By addressing the healthcare infrastructure gaps, the GHS hopes to prevent further loss of lives and improve the overall health outcomes for women in the region.

Dr. Adomako Boateng disclosed that most maternal care cases are high-risk, emphasizing the need for improved healthcare infrastructure.

He made this statement when the Ghana Health services organized a Half year performance review meeting in Kumasi

On a related note, he also touched on the Mpox situation in the region, revealing that Ashanti has recorded 24 confirmed cases but fortunately, no deaths have been reported.

He advised the general public to follow the protocols put in place, including regular handwashing, to prevent the spread of the disease.
