Hogbetsotso Festival Kicks Off With Call For Agricultural University

The 2025 Hogbetsotso festival, a significant celebration for the Anlo people, kicked off at Ohawu in the Ketu North Municipality. This year’s theme, “Building Bridges: From Shared History to Collective Future,” aims to unite the community.
The festivities will culminate in a grand durbar on November 1 in Anloga.
Togbi Agbesi Awusu, the Awadada of Anlo, called on the government to fast-track the conversion of Ohawu Agricultural College into a university.
He believes this would boost agricultural innovation, food security, and job opportunities for the youth.
The Awadada also encouraged the Anlo people to support the festival and contribute to its development agenda.
The Principal of Ohawu Agricultural College, Ernest M.K. Abiew, highlighted the institution’s challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, unreliable internet, and insufficient staff and student facilities.
Despite these issues, the college is optimistic about its future as a potential agricultural university.
The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, attended the launch and urged traditional leaders to promote unity and resolve chieftaincy disputes peacefully.
He point out that these conflicts might discourage investors and hinder development in the region.
