Ashaiman Residents Of Lebanon Zone 1,2,3,4,5 Lament Robbery Attacks

Residents of Lebanon zone 1,2,3,4 and 5 in the Ashaiman Municipality have raised strong concerns over the recurring robbery incidents in the community.

The residents specifically mentioned that the perpetrators carry out their operations unhindered, using motorbikes, Guns, and machetes to rob at gunpoint both at dawn and at night hours.

Raising the concerns at a community engagement organised by the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, the residents believe that the unavailability of police patrols in the areas is contributing to the high rise of robbery activities in the area.

They indicate that Market women and workers who wake up at dawn are not able to do so due to fear of their bags being snatched by this robbers on motorbikes.

They are therefore appealing to the Inspector General Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yehuno, to help with police patrols in and around the areas. Some of the residents spoke with us.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Ashaiman Hon.Freeman Tsekpo reacting to these concerns acknowledged the situation indicating that Ashaiman’s population is over 300,000 but the police workforce logistics is very inadequate.

He therefore appealed to the Interior Minister and the IGP to provide the police with some motorbikes to be able to patrol at night to curb crimes in the municipality.

The Member of Parliament for the area  Hon. Ernest Norgbey who was present at the community engagement in his response indicate that crime rate in the municipality has reduced drastically.

However he has promised to purchase some motorbikes for the police to curb the situation.
