Shortage Of Nurses And Lack Of Staff Accommodation Hit Tepa Municipal Hospital

The Tepa Government Municipal Hospital in the Ahafo Ano North Municipality of the Ashanti Region is facing a critical shortage of nurses and inadequate staff accommodation, a situation affecting effective healthcare delivery.

According to the Municipal Health Director, Dr. Frederick Kwaku Ofori, the hospital is overwhelmed due to insufficient staff, making work extremely difficult for the health professionals currently on duty.

He noted that even the few available staff struggle because there are no proper residential facilities to house them, affecting workflow and service output.

Dr. Ofori made these concerns known during the celebration of Nurses and Midwives Week, as well as the launch of the proposed Ghana Staff Housing Project held at the hospital.

The event was attended by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ahafo Ano North, Hon. Kwasi Adusei.

He appealed to government authorities and relevant stakeholders to intervene urgently by providing additional nurses and addressing the accommodation challenges.

Responding to the concerns, MCE Hon. Kwasi Adusei assured the health workers that he will present their request to the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to ensure that more staff are posted to the hospital.

He emphasized that the Tepa Government Hospital is gradually becoming a referral facility, therefore requires increased manpower and infrastructure support.

The MCE also called on philanthropists and benevolent organizations to assist in contributing resources to support the hospital’s development.
