Residents Of Kenyasi No. 2 Raise Concerns Over Newmont Blasting Activities

Residents of Kenyasi No. 2 in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region have raised concerns over the impact of blasting activities by Newmont on their community.

The residents, who live close to the Newmont site particularly around the Bypass and Habitat areas say the blasting is affecting their safety and properties.

The leader of the affected residents, Mr. Yaw Sarpong, said the blasting has caused visible cracks in several buildings within the area.

According to him, the situation has left residents worried about their safety and the structural integrity of their homes.

Mr. Sarpong stated that since Newmont has come to stay, the company should enter into a clear agreement with residents to address the problem.

He explained that residents want clarity on whether Newmont will renovate damaged buildings whenever cracks occur or provide them with a permanent place of residence.

Some residents also expressed concern that the blasting activities have created fear and panic within the community, disrupting their peace and daily lives.
