Clean Water Access Reduces Illness And Frees Girls From Long Daily Water Collection… By Samuel Owusu-Boadi, Founder Of WellsForAll.

January 28th 2025 – WellsForAll, (formerly hive borehole) a Ghanaian-led clean water initiative, is marking the completion of 25 boreholes in 2025, delivering safe and reliable drinking water to rural communities and creating meaningful improvements in girls’ education, family health, and daily life.

In many rural areas, girls are traditionally responsible for collecting water – often walking long distances each day. By bringing clean water closer to home, WellsForAll-supported boreholes have helped increase girl-child school attendance by up to 60 percent, allowing more girls to attend school regularly and focus on their studies.

Communities have also recorded a 40 percent reduction in waterborne diseases, easing the burden on households and reducing school absences linked to illness.

“When water is far, girls pay the price,” said Samuel Owusu-Boadi, Founder of WellsForAll.
“By providing reliable water in our communities, we are giving girls back their time, their health, and their opportunity to learn.”

Rural water access remains a challenge in parts of Ghana, particularly where infrastructure breaks down due to a lack of maintenance.
WellsForAll’s projects use mechanised boreholes designed for long-term use, with community involvement to ensure sustainability.

As Ghana continues to work toward improved rural development outcomes, initiatives that link water access to education and gender equity are proving essential to building stronger, more resilient communities.

Looking ahead, WellsForAll plans to expand its clean water initiatives in 2026, with future borehole projects and strategic partnerships already in development.
The organisation aims to build on the momentum of 2025 by working with donors, development partners, and local stakeholders to extend sustainable water access to more underserved communities across Africa.
