Western Region MMDCs Commended For Adhering To Government Roadmap.

The Chairperson of the Parliamentary select Committee on Local Government and Rural Development, who also double as the MP for Agona Wast, Hon. Queenstar Maame Pokua Sawyerr, has commended Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCs) in the Western Region for strictly adhering to the government’s development roadmap and effectively utilising funds released to them.

Speaking during a parliamentary capacity-building and monitoring visit to the region, Hon. Sawyerr described the performance of the MMDCs as impressive, noting that their commitment to following laid-down procedures and development plans is yielding positive results.

The visit forms part of a broader initiative by Parliament to decentralise engagement and strengthen ties with local governance structures.

According to the Chairperson, the programme was inspired by the Speaker’s vision to move Parliament closer to the grassroots and reduce the gap between lawmakers and citizens.

Hon. Sawyerr acknowledged that the interactions revealed a wider knowledge gap than anticipated, stressing that sustained engagement would be necessary to bridge it.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa Nsuaem, Hon. Ebenezer Cobbina, described the programme as timely and insightful.

He said the session had broadened participants’ understanding of governance, particularly in the area of by-laws.

Adding his voice, Hon. Abdul Majeed Dokurgu MCE for Effia Kwesimintsim said, the capacity-building workshop had been highly impactful, emphasizing that training remains the key difference between those who understand governance processes and those who do not.

He noted that the platform had helped close the knowledge gap between Parliament and local government actors, explaining that both institutions ultimately share the same objective improving the lives of citizens and strengthening communities.

End.
