Birim North DCE Demands Urgent Action Over Deadly Nkawkaw – Abirem Road.

The District Chief Executive for Birim North District in the Eastern Region,Hakeem Antwi Abdul, has raised serious concerns over the increasing number of road accidents along the Nkawkaw–Abirem highway.

He disclosed that five accidents have been recorded within the past three weeks alone.

Describing the situation as disturbing, Mr. Antwi Abdul attributed the recurring crashes to poor road construction and inadequate safety measures on portions of the Nkawkaw–Abirem road.

According to him, the accidents have claimed five lives, left several others injured, and caused significant damage to property, heightening fear among residents and motorists who use the stretch daily.

He noted that certain sections of the road lack essential safety features and proper engineering standards, making it particularly dangerous at night and during heavy rainfall.

The DCE called on the Ghana Highway Authority and the contractor handling the project to immediately inspect the affected areas and rectify any structural defects.

Mr. Antwi Abdul stressed that the lives of residents and commuters must not be endangered due to substandard work.

He also appealed to drivers to exercise caution, avoid over-speeding, and strictly comply with road safety regulations as authorities work to address the situation.

End.
