Minority Caucus In Parliament Engages Ccocoa Famers As Farmers Oposes Price Reduction.

Aggrieved Cocoa farmers in the Ashanti Region specifically Bosomefreho Constituency has oppose the government’s recent reduction of the cocoa producer price, calling the move unfair and damaging to their livelihoods.

According to them, the price cut by the rulling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government clearly shows neglect of farmers, whiles some argued that the new price barely covers production expenses due to rising costs of labor, fertilizer, and transportation.

They said, the government had deceived them, acting contrary to their promises.

The aggrieved cocoa farmers expressed this sentiments at “Danso” a cocoa growing village in the Bosomefreho Constituency of the Ashanti Region when the Minority caucus in Parliament engaged cocoa farmers as part of the caucus 5-days cocoa farming tour in the Ashanti Region over the cocoa price cut.

They also hinted plans to embark on picketting if the government refused to rescind the cocoa price cut decision.

“We are appealing to the minority caucus in Parliament to help us engage the government to give us the old price since they represent us in Parliament”. They said.

The aggrieved farmers further urged the government to as a matter of urgency rescind their decision.

The Member of Parliament of Bosomefreho Constituency Hon. Nana Asafo Adjei Ayeh and the Nsawam- Adoagyiri Member of Parliament Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh who is also the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament speaking on behalf of the Minority caucus expressed disappointment, describing the decision as significant blow to hardworking cocoa farmers accros the country and further pledged the caucus commitment to supporting cocoa farmers in these difficult times.
